Local Artists and Concerts
Chicago has been the home base for folk music for the past 50 years. From the long lines at the old Gate of Horn thru the late night lovefests at the Earl of Old Town to the acoustic perfection at the Old Town School of Folk Music
The artists featured here have been a part of the Chicago Folk scene for many of those years.

TRIBUTE TO FRED HOLSTEIN - various artists
When Fred Holstein died unexpectedly a couple of years ago, it was a punch in the stomach to his lifelong fans. Among those fans were a bevy of performers who felt a need to express their love and appreciation to their pal & for many, mentor. Included on this tribute to Fred are his brother, Ed and of course, Bonnie Koloc.
The stories and songs will warm your heart.

Former Oak Parkers and longtime customers Michael and Wendy Goode have
come up with this beautifully recorded and put together EP with a
ethereal but somewhat
folky title song with three other earthy and catchy tunes. I think
you will like their very personal take on musical storytelling in four
different ways using rock, folk, testimonial,
and a light romantic tune at the end. For more info see: http://www.trumpetworkspress.com/freedom4all.html
or see their video on You Tube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ainC2y__bs
A signed copy of the CD is ONLY available from Val's halla Records in Oak Park ---- so there !!!

Promoting local recordings has been a mission at Val's halla since our beginnings almost 40 years ago. Since the days of homegrown 45's and LP's, we have welcomed and displayed the work of performers' self produced artistry.
With the advent of personal websites, it has become much easier for bands and individual musicians to expose their art to the general public, but there is nothing as satisfying as walking into your local record store and seeing your own CD on the shelf.
Come see our selection of Chicago area local artists and you too can "support local artists."
